Course Description :

This course aims to familiarize students on both theoretical and practical aspect of digital library activities familiarizing them a variety of different formats and approaches. This course will examine the structure organization and structure of health science information. It will review the issue involved in provision of health primary services fill the information needs of health professional. Different library models will be reviewed. Students will be introduced to wide variety of print and electronic references sources in health science and to see these sources in context of specialized information needs in different user groups. The course will also include material of particular relevance to hospital libraries and to a consumer health and patient education libraries. It will demonstrate and exemplify current activities in the medical digital library field. The course will give hands on practice.
The specialization provides an opportunity for those interested in acquiring knowledge and skill in medical information and medical digital libraries aiming at employment in Medical Libraries of reputed academic medical institutions having automated library systems, state health care development systems, International Organizations and NGO’s working in healthcare systems and Pharma Industry and other Orgnizations needing professionals having expertise in health knowledge management. With the implementation of the recommendation of National Knowledge Commission, the need of health Knowledge Workers is realized. Further, the demand of medical librarians with knowledge & experience in library automation will be much in demand in view of the decision of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to develop digital medical library infrastructure in all medical colleges. Due to the need of medical professionals for high quality information, medical libraries have been the easy adopters of electronic resources to provide information and services.

 

Need for professionals trained in digital medical library:

Unlike other library professionals, medical librarians require expertise and values in latest technologies in order to manage the advanced health knowledge information which is growing in an exponential rate. Medical and health services professionals needs assistance in managing health information resources, search strategies, application of modern information communication technologies in information access. Medical library equipped with digital infrastructure and trained library professionals ensures that health care providers have access to authoritative accessible, reliable, accurate up to date and timely published information that enhances the quality of research and patient care.

 

Eligibility:
Science Graduates with Bachelor in Library Science or Bachelor in Library & Information Science.

Age:

- Maximum 35 years, relaxation as per Govt. rules

- No age limit for sponsored candidates

Fee structure:- (Inclusive final exam fee)

Rs. 20,000/- per year (no stipend to be given)

NRI Candidates          -       Rs. 1,00,000/- or Equivalent Foreign Currency (no stipend to be given)
